چکیده

The effect of spin relaxation on tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) in a ferromagnet/superconductor/ferromagnet (FM/SC/FM) double tunnel junction is theoretically studied. The spin accumulation in SC is determined by balancing of the spin-injection rate and the spin-relaxation rate. In the superconducting state, the spinrelaxation time τs becomes longer with decreasing temperature, resulting in a rapid increase of TMR. The TMR of FM/SC/FM junctions provides a useful probe to extract information about spin-relaxation in superconductors.

THESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Spin Transport in Two-Dimensional Material Heterostructures

Spintronics is considered as an alternative for information processing beyond the charge based technology. The spintronic device performance depend on the spin relaxation mechanisms in the channel material. Si and graphene are interesting for their long spin coherence lengths and ideal for spin transport channels. Additionally, the interest in newly discovered two-dimensional semiconductors (2D...

Spin Absorption Effect at Ferromagnet/Ge Schottky-Tunnel Contacts

We study the influence of the junction size in ferromagnet (FM)/semiconductor (SC) contacts on four-terminal nonlocal spin signals in SC-based lateral spin-valve (LSV) structures. When we use FM/Ge Schottky-tunnel junctions with relatively low resistance-area products, the magnitude of the nonlocal spin signal depends clearly on the junction size, indicating the presence of the spin absorption ...

Magnetoresistance Effect in Spin-Polarized Junctions of Ferromagnetically Contacting Multiple Conductive Paths: Applications to Atomic Wires and Carbon Nanotubes

For spin-polarized junctions of ferromagnetically contacting multiple conductive paths, such as ferromagnet (FM)/atomic wires/FM and FM/carbon nanotubes/FM junctions, we theoretically investigate spin-dependent transport to elucidate the intrinsic relation between the number of paths and conduction, and to enhance the magnetoresistance (MR) ratio. When many paths are randomly located between th...

Ferromagnet-Insulator-Ferromagnet Tunneling with One Half-Metallic Electrode

Ferromagnet-insulator-Ferromagnet (FM-I-FM) tunnel junctions were prepared with one ferromagnet being NiMnSb, a compound predicted by deGroot et al. to be half-metallic. X-ray diffraction and Rutherford back scattering experiments indicated that the deposited NiMnSb exhibited the desired structure and composition. However, a junction magnetoresistance (JMR) of only 1.5% at room temperature and ...

Effect of Spin-Flip Scattering on Electrical Transport in Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

By means of the nonequilibrium Green function technique, the effect of spin-flip scatterings on the spin-dependent electrical transport in ferromagnetinsulator-ferromagnet (FM-I-FM) tunnel junctions is investigated. It is shown that Jullières formula for the tunnel conductance must be modified when including the contribution from the spin-flip scatterings. It is found that the spin-flip scatter...
